DAT-Heads Digest #903, Volume #2 Sat, 17 Aug 96 14:12:03 EDT From: Randy Vogel Subject: SBM1 info Date: Fri, 16 Aug 96 23:36:17 PDT sheesh, it seems like only yesterday that i posted an epistle on this unit, but with time on my hands, let's be repetitive... Brian Cox asked... > looking for any feedback from sony SBM-1 users. i want to know > opinions good/bad, power details, level setting details (do you > look at the D7/D8 to set the levels, or use the peak LED?) here > are some other questions: it's a nice A/D unit, superior to the D3/7's built in equipment....better mic pre too, i suppose. it's sends a digital signal out via sony's zany 7-pin connector, so you set levels on the SBM1 via a single pole shaft with independent L/R dials. It has no level meter except for "over" LEDs, which is sufficient for stealth work...simply crank the levels until the LEDs flash, then back off a bit. It also has a 4-LED battery power indicator. > what is the current draw of the unit? i want to power it using > the 1350mAh lithium ion packs i have built already for the D7 supposedly, 4 AA's will run it for 2 hours; I've been getting about 3 hrs on a set before changing 'em (using the Costco brand generics). Based on how quickly it sucked current from my gel cells (when connected in parallel with a D3), I'd guess a draw of about 500 mA. > does it have analog line outs to feed another deck, to use its > preamp, but not its A/D? (to line out to a D6 or whatever to > have analog backup running) No > exactly what jacks does it have? stereo mini input (w/sony +5V? mic power); 2 x 1/4 inch mic inputs 2 x RCA line inputs stereo headphone jack w/vol control for monitoring 5 inch long sony 7-pin cable for attaching to deck (male) sony 7-pin jack (female) for connecting longer cables > what is a good price for a mail order one? Klay was selling them for $375 awhile ago...
